Thoughtful Cancer Care Basket

November 4, 2016

One of my brother’s friends and co-workers, Katie Wenger, put together this thoughtful cancer care basket for him thinking that he would be going through chemo for a few months.  Unfortunately, Ivin Berneil passed away before she could give it to him.

But we were all touched by the careful time and consideration she put into making “encouragement” cards for the basket.  She included a variety of cards for when Berneil might be experiencing a variety of feelings.  What a great idea.

The envelopes all started out with “OPEN ME WHEN…”

  • You need a pick-me-up.
  • You need motivation.
  • You need to feel appreciated.
  • You need a smile.
  • You are feeling hopeless.
  • You are feeling worried.
  • You need inspiration.
  • You have a bad day.
  • You need another smile.
  • And, OPEN ME EVERYDAY!

  1. Ensure shakes
  2. Mints
  3. Framed “Never Give Up” sign
  4. Mason jar filled with Hershey’s Hugs for “When You Need A Hug”
  5. Scented candle
  6. Notepad

The love and concern shared by Ivin Berneil’s co-workers and second-family has been incredible!  Thank you to everyone.  And, thank you Katie Wenger for this considerate basket of care items.
